happy new drink drank drunk.

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

well, its new years eve tomorrow, and i have to work all afternoon. thats lame, but then its partytime in old sydney town. epic fireworks, epic parties, epic drinkies with epic friends. wot more could you want?

so todayspost is some things that are epic, to me at least.

first of all, from my favourite brand ever, and under the category of watch lust, yet again.

nixon’s epic 51-50 is the largest watch i have seen, that doesnt look like its stupid. its solid, its big clear time telling on a stick. i want one, i will have one, after my japan trip (2 weeks people, expect epic photo gallery and possibly a book from that)

but i digress. here it is in all its majesty, getting shot. (get it, cos of its gunmetal colourway)

there is more epicness from nixon, and if you visit their site you are sure to find it, but i will post about them in my next installment.

for all the goodness in watchyland visit – www.nixonnow.com

still along all things epic in product land, japanese awesomemakers nendo have some up with a novel, and practical way to charge your phone.

see it, its antlers you mount to your wall socket!!! i am in love.

see more epic awesome from nendo at – www.nendo.jp

now onto epic artmaker ben frost, who has been blowing my mind and inspiring the masses (or at least some of the artists i know) for a while now. and he is from sydney, so i mite run into him on this epic new years… probs not, but you never know.

this chair, from czech republic artist david crla is something i really really really want to have in my apartment. its a colab between him and anna gabrhelová who did the textile design.

amazing creations from oskar zieta. these blow up sheet metal stools really look like foil ballons, but can hold the weight of a human.

read an interview with oskar at – www.architonic.com

or view more of his amazing work on his site at – www.zieta.pl

honda have been focussing on environmental sustainability in their work of late (but really, who hasnt) but this mailout really caught my eye! its printed on specially made paper that contained seeds that once planted, would grow!

created by the inferno group in london, see more of their work at – www.inferno-group.com (ps. love thair slogan – doing the right thing. it seems to have stuck)

finally, another project with the wellbeing of the world kept in mind, metal for monsters is an effort to raise money for UNICEF put together by blend creations. they are creating wonderful, quirky metal jewellery, with monsters laser etched onto them. and the best part is – you can make your own design!

great work with a great cause. see more at – www.metalformonsters.com

today, i am using psychology to make my posts even better.

i came across some awesome tshirts from half a conversation. they are moanly typographical, very simple, single colour screenprints on white shirts.

i love them, and want to start collecting them all!

leading with a video, again.

Monday, December 15th, 2008

well, wot can i say, i like to lead with a video! this time its an aesop rock video, featuring artwork (as in, the whole process of creation) by jeremy fish.

jeremy fish has really been making the rounds lately, andif you like his style, check out his site at – www.sillypinkbunnies.com

i stumbled across this photo last nite, and i have to say, even tho its not a technically perfect photo, i like it more then most of the photography i have seen lately.

its quite impressive but i couldnt find much info on artist.. his name is terje, and he is part of g8 (gate).

see more at – www.g8.no

i really dig (no pun intended) the older works of walter martin and pamela munoz. their recents works are nice, but this old scultpure is probably my favourite.

isnt it awesome! i want one as a pet! haha.

see more of their stuff (particularly the past work) at – www.martin-munoz.com

i love james jean’s moleskine sketchbook work. random scribblings from daily life, but wen viewed as a whole give a really good insight to this artists workings.

see the whole book at – www.jamesjean.com

fantastic illustration work from adrian knopik out of poland.

see more from this body of work on his behance page at – www.behance.net/RARRFC

stina persson has been doing some lovely work thats been classified as photo incorporation. i really like the style and the avenues opened up by this form of mixed media. its almost like grafitti that was meant to be there!

see more of these works at – www.stinapersson.com

now this is rad shit. valory milovic has been rocking my socks for a long time, and i didnt even know it. i randomly came across one of her works a year or so ago, and i had no info on the artist at all! now, i know who it is and i couldnt be happier!

amazing mixed media works with so much grime it makes me feel like i am rolling in the gutter (in a good way). the happy little characters in the grunge of wot looks to be a post apocalytpic (human caused of course) world really appeal to me, on so many levels.

this work is called hapathy, and its wot happens wen “happiness and apathy produce an offspring.”
