moss!!

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

ok, it all started back near the beggining of the year when i found hafsteinn juliusson’s living jewellery and its amazing shop

you can read the previous post on iFe here - www.ifforeverexists.com/?p=312 (pictures are missing from the post at the moment after the upgrade, i will sort it out soon)

and you can see the more of juliusson’s work at – www.hafsteinnjuliusson.com

since then, i have been collecting all the works i have come across that included moss. it seemed incredible to me, and here they are.

deluxe accessory brand coto have been sending their precious product to customers packaged with eco friendly moss as the protection! i am totally impressed by the style, quirkiness and the green-ness of this great, simple idea!

coto

you can see the unboxing on the dieline blog

and catchup with the coto range at – www.cotoluxe.com

the made by mavis etsy store is filled to the brim with all sorts of mossy terrariums, but my favourite by far is this (sold out) one

made_by_mavis

awesome little idea for people who want a bit of furry green in their lives. go visit the store at – www.etsy.com

edina tokodi’s green graffiti really rocked my socks.. the cute imagery and the go go green power means of execution work amazingly well together!

abe, aka anna garforth, has been creating awesome typographical moss graffiti, called sporeborne (probably the worlds best, most subtle pun ever!)

this moss carpet concept by nguyen la chanh really inspired me to collect all the mould in my bathroom, and put it on a mat! not really, but as far as warm, moint environments go, this is a great idea, plus, moss is super cushy on your feet!

mineo mizuno has created a new bench/seat/metal and moss creation that is currently in a show called coexistence at the samuel freeman gallery, in santa monica, ca.

and finally, my favourite mossy friend. this little phone dangle from hakodate in japan, which features a ball of moss from hakodate bay, a lil leaf and some glow rocks! i love it, and really wish i picked up more of them (i think i will be calling my mate who lives up there for some more! oooh, and cheap japanese inks)

feeling photographic today

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

i have done a lot of work on the site recently, updated the theme (nightmare) updated the wordpress software (not so bad) and finally, added a bunch of functionality to the site. in the sidebar, you can see my twitter feed, you can see my latest artworks on deviant art, you can see some google ads (clicking them helps this blog grow), and you can see some of my latest favourite works that i find on deviant art. there is my last.fm profile, so you know wot i have been lisetning to, and best of all…

you can subscribe to the mailing list! and get each awesome post sent to your email when they happen! if you become a member of the blog, through the signup/comments area, you have more option to control your updates as well, so keep that in mind if you like wot you are seeing on this site. updates will pretty much be daily from now on, and i am looking for other contributors to add their insights to the evergrowing world of if forever exists. so go on, click subscribe up the top!

today i thought i would focus on works that use photography to a mad crazy degree…

from what i can remember reading, elias raschle is only young, but already has an amazing grasp of the photographic medium! his shots are raw, gritty, and tell a tale of life growing up in the czech republic. there isnt much info on his website anymore tho.

elias_raschle

check out selected works at – www.eliasraschle.ch

i have never heard, or thought of, photo weaving before, but it looks like an interesting way to give some three dimensionality to a photo, adding texture and a little bit of chaos to what could start out as a boring print. this video shows a timelapse of the process, that took roughly 20 hours.

Untitled (Rose) Weave – Time Lapse from Todd M Duym on Vimeo.

pretty amazing, especially when shot as a time laps!

julien breton has been a busy beaver of late, pumping out a whole body of works utilizing a favourite technique of mine – lightpainting! but breton has really stepped up the art, incorporating calligraphic creations into the now widespread medium

julien_breton

there are an amazing amount of great photos at – www.kaalam.free.fr

asaka narahashi has some intruiging photographs in a series called – half awake and half asleep in the water. they are really well composed, but ambiguous enough to make you stare at them for ages and ages.

asako_narahashi

you can view the whole set at – www.03fotos.com

and to finish, another video. i did swear to myself i wouldnt let my drift life and my art life intersect. i wanted to keep them seperate as both are arts in their own right, but Mez Productions are really stepping up the the productions value with his latest video from the stadium drift track day.

Oakburn from MeZ on Vimeo.

one of the best drift videos i have seen in a long while, its fresh footage, well shot and really well edited!

thats it from me today

long nite in japan.

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

so, last nite we hit the cans, and by hit the cans i mean it would have been frowned upon in australia. some afternoon chill beers in the cafe attached to our accomodation, then we hit dinner, which was greatm cheap curry.

but thats wen the nite started to get really interesting. we were searching for a bar, called den-en, but couldnt find it, so we wandered round kyoto just going into random buildings and hitting tiny pubs, getting a beer in each that was cheap enough and then we found one called radio clash - it was a clash tribute bar, that had so much clash mrmobilia that it was intense. we could request any rock we wanted there, so we stayed a while before heading on. thenm we managed to find den-en. the reason we were looking for den-en is cos they have a gerat deal on drinks – ¥1600 for all you can drink for 2 hours. so about 20 bucks for all you can drink.. which is unbelieavle. we started to get messy, and some scandinavian girls came and we chatted, then our 2 hours were up, so wots next?? vending machine beers. ahhh yeah. then, how bout some 3am bowling? oh yes, with more drinking and a few strikes. after bowling we went into a sticker photo booth and did that, which was awesome japanese stye. and then we hit a ramen bar for some ramen and gyoza. the most memorable part of the nite was comparing tattoos with a yakuza, and then swapping gifts, i got some beads, a disneyland coin and a patch that wll protect me, for my beanie. got the guys number so we can meet up in toyko wen we are there. got back to the huose at 5am japan time (7am back home time) and fell asleep. intense.

so to commemorate such an awesome country i present a videom which is a montage of all the photos from a couple`s trip to japan. he totally stole my idea, and used the perfect songm but hey,  its all good, and now i know wot i need to do to outdo him..
