in january, i went to japan for 2 weeks with my good mates yewot and chenga.
i took a load of photos and have been trying to get them into a montage for ages. well, it has finally happened, and now i present to you, every photo i took in japan in january.
hope you enjoi it! i cant wait to go back.
also, i have been invited to guest post over at rice candy magazine’s website, and will be starting that soon!
i have done a lot of work on the site recently, updated the theme (nightmare) updated the wordpress software (not so bad) and finally, added a bunch of functionality to the site. in the sidebar, you can see my twitter feed, you can see my latest artworks on deviant art, you can see some google ads (clicking them helps this blog grow), and you can see some of my latest favourite works that i find on deviant art. there is my last.fm profile, so you know wot i have been lisetning to, and best of all…
you can subscribe to the mailing list! and get each awesome post sent to your email when they happen! if you become a member of the blog, through the signup/comments area, you have more option to control your updates as well, so keep that in mind if you like wot you are seeing on this site. updates will pretty much be daily from now on, and i am looking for other contributors to add their insights to the evergrowing world of if forever exists. so go on, click subscribe up the top!
today i thought i would focus on works that use photography to a mad crazy degree…
from what i can remember reading, elias raschle is only young, but already has an amazing grasp of the photographic medium! his shots are raw, gritty, and tell a tale of life growing up in the czech republic. there isnt much info on his website anymore tho.
i have never heard, or thought of, photo weaving before, but it looks like an interesting way to give some three dimensionality to a photo, adding texture and a little bit of chaos to what could start out as a boring print. this video shows a timelapse of the process, that took roughly 20 hours.
pretty amazing, especially when shot as a time laps!
julien breton has been a busy beaver of late, pumping out a whole body of works utilizing a favourite technique of mine – lightpainting! but breton has really stepped up the art, incorporating calligraphic creations into the now widespread medium
asaka narahashi has some intruiging photographs in a series called – half awake and half asleep in the water. they are really well composed, but ambiguous enough to make you stare at them for ages and ages.
and to finish, another video. i did swear to myself i wouldnt let my drift life and my art life intersect. i wanted to keep them seperate as both are arts in their own right, but Mez Productions are really stepping up the the productions value with his latest video from the stadium drift track day.
the words i mean, not the practice. i think what some people are doing with their website design and layout cant be called web design anymore.
it is something much more than that. in an age of broadband connections and high res screens, the good old internet just doesnt cut it anymore. recently i have come across some amazing sites that take web design into web fucking awesome design, or something along those lines.
most impressive was the site of laimonas stasiulis (try saying that after a couple of beverages) and his amazing portfolio site. he is a phtographer born in lithuania and based in england, who has been shooting for a few years, in 2007 he even took out first place in a competition.
his photographic work is top notch, but its more the site interaction that blows me away.
i came across some brilliant sculptural work from kevin francis gray, very dark, but also beautiful to look at, really does amaze me at the way some people can work.
amazing living jewellery from icelandic product designer hafsteinn júlíusson. its got real living icelandic moss, and the shop which was set up in a gallery for their launch is visually breath taking too, reminiscent of the icelandic landscapes.
and from a good friend of mine, comes the recommendation of illustrator jasper goodall.. and apart from having a rocking name, he does some super clean, stylistic illustrations.
and for those of you out there who are scrubs fans, there is a double header on american abc tonite, which is scrubs new home.. i cant wait to see new eps!!!
well, wot can i say, i like to lead with a video! this time its an aesop rock video, featuring artwork (as in, the whole process of creation) by jeremy fish.
jeremy fish has really been making the rounds lately, andif you like his style, check out his site at – www.sillypinkbunnies.com
i stumbled across this photo last nite, and i have to say, even tho its not a technically perfect photo, i like it more then most of the photography i have seen lately.
its quite impressive but i couldnt find much info on artist.. his name is terje, and he is part of g8 (gate).
i really dig (no pun intended) the older works of walter martin and pamela munoz. their recents works are nice, but this old scultpure is probably my favourite.
i love james jean’s moleskine sketchbook work. random scribblings from daily life, but wen viewed as a whole give a really good insight to this artists workings.
stina persson has been doing some lovely work thats been classified as photo incorporation. i really like the style and the avenues opened up by this form of mixed media. its almost like grafitti that was meant to be there!
now this is rad shit. valory milovic has been rocking my socks for a long time, and i didnt even know it. i randomly came across one of her works a year or so ago, and i had no info on the artist at all! now, i know who it is and i couldnt be happier!
amazing mixed media works with so much grime it makes me feel like i am rolling in the gutter (in a good way). the happy little characters in the grunge of wot looks to be a post apocalytpic (human caused of course) world really appeal to me, on so many levels.
this work is called hapathy, and its wot happens wen “happiness and apathy produce an offspring.”
well, in the spirit of giving, i will be posting more often. ahhaha.. its true.
i will start in the same vein as the last post i made, with animals in a video. this one is called souvenir de chine by larytta. i love the kaleidoscopic effect by using mirrors. now this one mite be deemed as cruelty to animals by some, but its quite a harmless beautiful video with a great soundtrack to accompany.
now, i am always a fan of light. its clean, its pleasing to the eye, and its sexy (yeah, sexy) so wen i came across the work of yuichi higashionna i was instantly impressed.
little ghosts on livejournal has been doing some amazingly detailed papercut work lately, and these ones particularly tweaked my interests. with a very día de los muertos feel.
zach johnsen has been blowing my mind and inspiring me for a good year or so. i love his style and alternate reality. his site, zenvironments, is full of awesome.
mostly illustration work, lots of inks, washes, splashes and detail, i am sure you will get something from it like i have.
